According to WikiPedia a snowmobile is a vehicle designed for winter travel and recreation on snow. It can be operated on snow and ice and does not require a road or trail. According to Northern Timber Cruisers the very first snowmobile race took place in the Pas, Manitoba (Canada) in February of 1958. They drove around a lake called Grace Lake, and the main purpose of the race was to show off how much better these new snowmobiles where comparing to dog sleds. To create more excitement, the race was rigged. "One guy ahead, and then the other, and so on. At a terrific speed of about 20 miles per hour", according to their website. These days this racing sport involves specialized high performance snowmobiles which race on an artificially made tracks. These tracks consist of tight turns, banked corners, steep jumps and obstacles, and the riders race at speed of up to 60 miles per hour.
